citronella bark-control collars?
Does anyone have any opinions about these?
When our dogs bark, it's loud and obnoxious. We're not huge fans of shock collars but I'm curious about how effective the citronella collars are.
Has anyone had any luck with these or are there better products or training tools out there?

well, we've been trying to spray them with bitter apple spray but with dog training, as we all know, timing is everything. unfortunately we can't always react as fast as necessary (unless we want to spend all day by the window). we've also been using "thank you!" as the trigger to get them to stop. and clapping loudly to distract them....
we're not at our wits end yet, but i'd like to be able to enforce their training even when we're not around (like if we're at work).
When I got my dog from the rescue centre he had a problem with seperation anxiety. I did a lot of training with him to combat this and got a DAP diffuser for when we were out, but by the time we got him his barking was already habitual. As he only barked when we were out there was not much we could do to combat the problem other than continue with speration anxiety training. I decided to get a collar to keep him quiet to ASSIST with the training (he was getting himself worked up by barking, making the DAP useless and the training pointless). We first tried a sonic collar (resulting in nothing but selective deafness) and then moved on to a spray collar. The spray collar worked immediately, and once he stopped getting himself overexcited the DAP was able to take effect, calming him down. We continued with seperation anxiety training as well and now he sleeps while we are out. Training is neccessary to solve the underlying problem, but it is easier to train a dog that is not getting itself overwrought (or if you are there - drowning you out), so these collars can help as long as you also work on training. It is important to work on the underlying issue, instead of just masking the symptoms (for the sake of the dog, as well as yourselves). I think that a lot of the people who have problems with these collars are hoping that the collar will solve the issue without further assistance.
