Dog collar question help needed?
I have 2 siberian huskies 1 is 9 months old(female) the other is 1 yr(male).Blaine has worn collars since he was 2 months but when he turned 6 months he started chewing threw them which he never did before.Cotton has worn them since she was 3months she has never wanted to wear worn and has chewed through every collar she has had.Any advice on how I can stop them from chewing through their collars I refuse to use a metal choke chain collar.
First, let's understand the purpose of the collar. It's used for You to control the animal as needed. And it's suppose to carry the necessary tags when you take them out of the house. If they are "Micro chipped" then you can remove the collars when relaxing at home. How in the world are the dogs getting to the collars if they are worn correctly! Proper fitment is that the collar is worn, and the owner can only get 3 fingers between the collar and the neck! You must have the collars too loose. You need to be in-charge of the dogs, not the dogs in-charge of you.
Make the wearing of a collar a "Reward", not a punishment. At home my dogs do not wear a collar, but whenever they are going out, they wear the collar, i.e rides in the car, walks, trips, vet, parks, etc. They'll want to wear the collars, they'll understand that fun things are associated with the wearing of the collar. I've done this for almost 30 years and it never fails.
