She only resigned after pleading the fifth ammendment, because she knows if she told the truth she'd be revealed as a criminal conspirator in the illegal actions of Bush's Justice Department.
The other things you mentioned are just additional examples of the problems with appointing "loyal Bushies" regardless of competence or consequences. Gonzales is just the latest (remember, "Heckuva job, Brownie!"?). When a President bases appointments to critical positions based on politics and loyalty instead of competence, people die. People also die when the American People elect a President based on party loyalty and not on competence.
Let's hope we get it right the next time...
