How do I get my dog to top chewing things up--such as shoes and remote controls!!?
It's hard to remember to put everything away all the time-- She just chewed up her second remote today--now I need to special order a third remote! Any advice?
the dog is a year and a half...she detroys and eats the toys that we give her...and she seems to like the bitter apple spray--we tried that too!
Ok first off you need to be ready and willing to try everything. And also have tonnes of patience. You'll get nowhere by muzzling or yelling at the dog. It won't work.
Choose a room where you can isolate the pup, or crate train her. It seems mean to think of but really, it's the safest thing that you can do for her. Because she's chewing up remotes and the like, she may eat something that isn't good for her. (Batteries, buttons etc.)
How old is the pup? If she's young, ten to one the pup's teething. Get a few treat despencing toys or some that you can fill with a special treat. (Eg: putting some peanut butter in a "KONG" type toy. It's inexpensive and keeps your dog busy and ammused while you're not in the house.)
This brings me to my next suggestion. It may be an anxiety prevoked behaviour. Separation anxiety is common in some dogs. And sometimes difficult to "reverse". Unless you're willing to take the time and effort to treat it.
Also how long is the pup left alone to her own devices? Dogs are like children, if not properly supervised they're bound to get into any and everything.
