How to drive " Sports-tronics" (the thing where a automatic car has optional shifting)?
my car has this thing in it called "sport-tronics" that lets you shift and accelerate faster even though it s a automatic car. I'd love to try this out for fun but i can't drive stick shift : (
i think you just get to around 2000 RPM then shift (yea, u just push the shift knob back and forth, no clutch)
can anyone help me out? step by step directions would be greatly appreciated. (im just 16 so im not good with this stuff yet)
Thanxs in advanced
It's not a big deal.
I have a Subaru with SportShift. I'm sure it's about the same thing.
The only trick to learning to drive a stick is learning to use the clutch and when and which gear to shift to. If girls can learn it, you know you can. Right?
Here's how mine works.
I don't have to be stopped to shift it into SportShift. I can do it on the fly at any speed.
With my shifter in drive, I pull it to the left into SportShift mode. A wondow on the dash will tell me I'm in Sport mode and which gear I'm in.
If I start from a stop with it in Sport mode, I will stay in 1st gear until I push the shifter forward. It will spring back to where it was and when I push it forward again it shifts into 2nd. The same thing with 3rd & 4th.
If I need to down shift, I pull it back and it shifts down a gear. Pull it back again and down another gear.
If you want to get an idea of how your car shifts in it's normal "Drive" mode, just drive like normal and listen carefully without the music on.
As you start from a stop, you will hear the engine as it's speeding up and you go a little faster. Then, you'll feel the transmission automatically (yes, that's why it's call an automatic transmission) shift into the next gear. Now, your in 2nd. A little faster and again it shifts and your in third.
Pay attention to how your car shifts and you will get a good idea of when to shift if you do it yourself.
Listen to your engine when your slowing to a stop. If your cruising up to a stop sign, start slowing down gently quite a ways back and listen to your engine. You will hear and feel it downshifting to the lower gears.
Just pay attention to when your car does it by itself and you will get a good idea of the proper time to shift.
If your car is like mine, you can shift back into normal drive mode as your moving.
Now, your 16 and haven't had your license very long so don't go out hotrodding and get in a wreck, If you do, your insurance will go nuts. You could kill somebody. A car can get away from you very quickly and go out of control. That's a large and heavy chunk of metal flying at a fast enough speed to do serious damage to anything it runs into.
You don't want to injure anyone you care about like your friends or girlfriend either. And especially yourself.
I'm not even going to mention what a speeding ticket will do to you.
Shifting by hand can be fun at times but don't get carried away with it. Over doing it will put extra wear on your transmission and drive line and you'll have to spend money on repairs that you'd much rather spend on other things. You'll save lots more money on gas if you let the car do it's own shifting also.
Best Wishes and be carefull.
